Welcome to Beaverdam

A Message from the Pastor

I recently read this illustration in a service I get called "In Other Words".  "The powerful leader of India Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) said "Almost everything you do will seem insignificant, but it is important that you do it.  Most of our tasks don't feel very important, but their importance can't be denied.  Reading to a distracted child may feel like a waste of time but its impact is beyond our initial comprehension.  Taking the time to speak with a neighbor might seem inconsequential yet that simple conversation might eventually open the door to eternity.  Running the vacuum for an exhausted wife seems pretty mundane to almost any male, but it could be the one thing that sustains her emotional equilibrium.  We may not change the world but our work is nonetheless very significant."

That got me thinking about all the small tasks, functions or responsibilities we humans have that make up our lives.

I'm a vegetable gardener.  I don't have to be, but simply enjoy it.  Of course, the plowing of the ground in the fall, the fertilizing and living are so important to the health of the garden.  The care during the growing season is important without question.

What I have observed at this time of year is the neglect of the weeds, soil, and planting of cool weather crops!  We've got the tomatoes and potatoes and are tied of it all!  The weeds grow and seed, creating thousands of seeds to torment us next year.

There is no season of your life you should let down physically, mentally or spiritually.  The best prevention for many diseases is good eating and regular exercise.  The addition of a right relationship with God will make your live healthier lives.  Taking care of this body, keeping the mind free from moral garbage and building good relationships to help us in hard times can be found in Jesus, our teacher and example.

Simply knowing how to garden or live don't make it happen.  You've got to find out then apply what you've learned to be the truth.

Among a group of Christians you can learn what God expects from a human beings life.  In addition you'll find encouragement to put them into practice.  Now we in the church don't always get it right, but we work at it.  We keep "pulling weeds" and tending the life God has given us.

As Ghadi says, everything you do is important.  I apply that by saying "Don't neglect the weeds in the fall".  That neglect will seem overwhelming later on.

God Bless You
