Welcome to Beaverdam

Our Music Ministry

The music ministry of Beaverdam Baptist Church is currently an adult choir. Our adult choir sings many styles of music; traditional anthems, Southern Gospel, Praise and Worship, and contemporary anthems. The twenty member choir meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00p.m. for an hour and we perform an average of four Sundays a month. Members of the choir do not have to audition and there is no attendance policy. Beaverdam celebrates Easter with an Easter cantata and Christmas with a Christmas cantata. We host a July 4th program every other year that is primarily composed of music. The music ministry also hosts special performances by outside guests. Approximately once a month, guest musicians are invited to help lead worship. Some are local musicians and some are traveling musicians. Musically gifted church members are encouraged to perform solos and duets as well.

The instruments used in our worship are an organ and a piano. We have interest in our congregation in guitar being added to worship in the future. During worship we sing hymns and older Praise and Worship choruses. Newer choruses are introduced on occasion. In the past our music ministry has included children's choirs, a praise team, a senior adult choir, and a visitation team of hymn singers. We'd love to see these started again.

KaDe Callahan is a graduate of Berea College in Kentucky. She was a Vocal Performance major and was called to be choir director at Beaverdam, where she grew up, in 1996. She considers herself "made for PRAISE" and enjoys all styles of Christian music. KaDe is bi- vocational and also works for the public school system. She lives with her young family in Bedford County.

Volunteer organist James Mitchell has been playing for church services for over 40 years.  James, a former high school math teacher, now runs his own photography studio near Staunton River High School.  He has a mater's degree from Hollins University and is actively involved in the Virginia Prof. Photography Association.
